| Ducky Acres Farm has a wonderful lesson program designed to teach every person hands-on horsemanship. Through patience, trust, and communication you will develop your horsemanship skills to the most advanced stages possible. Our riding lessons are very personalized to work at the individual student’s pace. The instructors will ask you at the beginning of each class what you wish to learn and then plan your lesson around your goals. Some people would like to learn how to sit comfortably and to relax while riding at the walk, trot or canter, others may wish to learn barrel racing patterns, work some trail course obstacles, or maybe just accomplish the very basics of how to start, stop, and turn a horse. |
| |
We also offer Hunter/Jumper lessons in which a rider will learn how to sit properly in an English saddle. A Hunter/Jumpers came to be with the fox hunts of England is quickly gaining popularity in our area. This style of riding uses different cues and equipment to ask the horse to move at each gait. The student will learn how to make proper transitions in this discipline and eventually work on jumping techniques and courses. |

Our riding program is based on the belief that in order to ride in balance we need to be aware of the needs of both the horse and rider. This awareness teaches us to be present in the moment. Kindness and presence to our own self requires some learning and practice. We have found that working with horses can teach a student how to dig deeper within his or herself to find a kind way to ask a horse to carry out their wishes. In connecting ourselves with se magnificent animals and our own center of balance (both mind and body) we learn to pay attention to the world around us. We believe in nurturing this awareness in our horsepeople. Riding lessons improve concentration and boost self-confidence while nurturing a lifelong relationship through Horsemanship. |

Here at Ducky Acres Farm we strive to help horses and riders make the best decisions possible to reach their equestrian goals. We are an Equestrian facility that believes in building a foundation for the horse and rider, which will carry them along in whichever discipline they may choose. Our instructors strongly believe that a good foundation and support structure is essential to your advancement throughout your riding career. This structure includes exercises that teach proper horsemanship; upper body, leg and seat position. Instruction and showing opportunities are provided here at Ducky Acres Farm. |

Proper attire is required to maximize the safety and learning potential of the rider.
Properly fitted boots and helmets are required. Boots that have a hard sole and at least a half inch heel will be fine. No tennis shoes, hiking boots or any shoe with a rubber sole, which may stick in the stirrups. Safety helmets are required at all times while working with horses. If you do not have an ASTM/SEI approved helmet, or have just started your riding career, please contact your instructor for assistance. |

Breeches or fitted jeans are ideal riding pants - - they are made of elastic material, small seams, and are fitted to the body. In short, they allow the correct amount of contact through your leg and seat to allow proper feel of your horse. Correct pant length is to the bottom of your ankle, not past the bottom of your shoe. Pants that are roomy, not baggy, in the waist and hip area are an idle fit. The goal is to protect your leg from rubbing against the saddle, with out interfering with your feel of the saddle or your movement. |
| |
| A properly fitted shirt should be loose enough to allow movement and circulation, but not baggy. Additionally, shirts that are tucked-in allow your instructor to see your body position clearly and keep you safe in the saddle (a loose-fit shirt can catch on parts of the saddle and restrict your movement). |

We take safety seriously and hope you do as well. If you have any questions about the above section, please feel free to contact Virginia. |
